Abstract:
By analyzing the pattern of the earthquake epicenters in the adjacent region between Shanxi, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia. it has been discovered that a weak earthquake belt existed before the Zhangbei earthquake occurred. This belt, made of small earthquakes occurred in more than 20years, striking to the maximum shear stress of North China crust stress field, is an extension toward the west of Yanshan-Bobai seismotectonic zone, at east end of which occurred the Zhangbei earthquake of M 6.2. Reasons of the mistakes in the location prediction of the Zhangbei earthquake are discussed. A new method based on the tectonics, kinetics and dynamics to study deep seismotectonics has been proposed, in which seismology and geology is combined, and the pattern of recent small earthquakes and focal mechanism is analyzed.
